Low back pain is an ongoing health concern in New Zealand, as it is internationally. It is estimated that 80% of New Zealanders will experience back pain at some time of their lives.

A significant number (60-70%) of our patients have back pain, with or without sciatic pain.
Functional Physio is the only facility in New Zealand that has the MedX Medical Lumbar Extension Machine which provides accurate, computerised, objective data on the strength of the spinal extensor muscles, the dynamic activity of the spinal muscles through their range of movement and safe, isolated strengthening of the lumbar spine.

Research clearly shows a strong correlation between increased strength in the spinal extensor muscles and decrease in patient’s pain and neurological symptoms if present.
